Lot description:

CARIA, Ceramus. Hadrian. 117-138 AD. Æ 11mm (1.10 gm). ∆NI-A∆PIANO, Laureate head right / KEPAMI-HTΩN, Calf's head right, 3/4 facing. SNG Copenhagen -; SNG von Aulock -; BMC -; Mionnet Supp. VI -; Waddington -; Lindgren -. Good VF, black patina. Apparently unpublished and possibly unique. ($250) This unusual denomination is revived from classical antiquity, when the issues of Ceramus previously bore the calf's head motif. In any case, the revival seems to have been short-lived, as this is the only piece to represent the series.
